Merline and John Engle

  • A Hershey Native, John Engle moved to Haiti in 1991 and lived there for most of 30 years

  • Founded Haiti Partners with his wife Merline and others in 2009 to improve education in Haiti

  • Enjoys a strong community of supporters in PA

  • Fun Fact: John’s ancestors built and operated the original Englewood Farm

  • Opened in 2012 with 25 three-year olds, today Haiti Partners Children’s Academy has over 400 students and is a beacon of hope in the center of Bawosya, Haiti.

  • Holistic approach to education includes arts and music, entrepreneurship and a social business, permaculture, volunteer service by parents

  • Haiti Partners serves over 1500 children and supports over 250 staff through a network of partner schools.
