Children’s Academy & Learning Center

Preparing and inspiring changemakers

No Ordinary School

Building on decades of work in leadership development and education, we opened the Children’s Academy and Learning Center in September 2012. From the ground up, we’ve built it as a place of innovative, high-quality learning, accessible to some of Haiti’s most disadvantaged children.

But the Children’s Academy doesn’t just provide excellent schooling. It’s also a working model of education-centered community development. Students learn locally relevant knowledge and skills, like permaculture gardening and how to compost. While their children are in school, parents participate in adult education classes, or community savings and loan groups, or visit the on-site health clinic, or contribute service hours. In the afternoons, local youth take language or entrepreneurship classes, or learn vocational skills working in the handmade paper social business.

Haiti is no ordinary context. This is why we’re building the Children’s Academy as no ordinary school. We invite you to join us.

A Big Vision

Our vision for the Children’s Academy is for a high-quality Pre-K through secondary school, training and meeting center, and agricultural/environmental/social business hub, all grounded in the local community and cultivating civic engagement, innovation, and sustainability. We seek to serve as a reference for Haiti’s Ministry of Education, NGOs, and other schools, with an eye towards reshaping the educational landscape in Haiti.
