Learning
For Life

We promote schools that help children realize their potential while driving community development and lifelong learning.

REBECCA GOES
TO SCHOOL

Rebecca is a kindergartner. Only about half of school-age children in Haiti like her get to attend school. Most Haitians live on less than $2 a day and can’t afford to send their kids to school.

Learning for Life

The motto of our model school, the Children’s Academy, is, “Learning for Life.” This motto embodies two aims:

  1. to provide the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in life, family and community; and,
  2. to prepare students to be active, life-long learners.

We employ proven, student-centered teaching techniques and innovative approaches in the classroom. We also believe that how you teach is just as important as what you teach. Thus, providing a joyful, loving, and creative environment in the school is key to what we do.

Understanding that Haiti’s problems extend outside the classroom, we also work with youth and adults providing programming to tackle deep cultural issues like women and children’s rights, positive discipline, entrepreneurship and collaborative leadership.

The Children’s Academy and Learning Center

A quality school built on the foundation of community

The Haiti Partners Children’s Academy and Learning Center serves as an incubator for the approaches and ideas that will reshape education toward a stronger, more democratic Haiti. Combining a high quality school, a profitable social business, and a learning center for local residents and visiting Haitian educators, it works to be a catalyst for rethinking education and the role of schools in community development. The Children’s Academy works hand-in-glove with the partner schools, where multiple environments help to refine and contextualize new ideas and practices for quality education and social business throughout Haiti.

The Partner School Strategy

A sustainable education model for Haiti

The partner school strategy was inspired by a sustainable education model developed by a grassroots organization in a remote area of Haiti. Partner schools have strong leadership but lack resources. Together we develop an accord and work plan for accompanying them over time. We build capacity through substantial training, improvements to school infrastructure, and providing support to create a social business or other entrepreneurial ventures to help them along the road toward long-term financial independence.
