The art reproduced on these cards was created by Gardy, a 9th-grade student at Haiti Partners’ Children’s Academy and Learning Center in Haiti. Gardy chose the heart image during a classroom activity designed to help students work through trauma caused by gang activity in their community. He feels that the heart symbolizes the warmth, respect, and acceptance that was shown to him upon entering The Children’s Academy.
The handmade paper Gardy’s art is printed on is crafted by members of the community at the school’s social business from locally harvested banana plants and vetiver.
