From the day we opened The Children’s Academy in September 2012, we’ve taught students and parents sustainable gardening techniques in the school gardens.
As food became scarcer in Haiti and prices soared during COVID, we expanded the school garden program to make agricultural technicians and water catchment systems available to students’ families. This increased local food production significantly, reducing the risk of hunger and malnutrition among students and parents.
In the above photo, a mother of two students brings part of her home garden harvest to school as a gesture of appreciation. These fresh tomatoes will be made a part of nutritious meals for students.
The photos below are of students and parents at The Children’s Academy working in the school gardens, learning sustainable gardening by doing.
As ever, thank you for your support for the western hemisphere’s most vulnerable people, Haiti’s rural poor.
