Character.org recognizes HP’s SASA! program as “Promising Practice”

Haiti Partners has been named a “Promising Practice” recipient by Character.org, for its SASA! program at the Children’s Academy. Character.org is a Washington D.C. based organization that has become a national leader and advocate for character development across the country and internationally. They have certified 246 “Promising Practices” to organizations and schools from across the United States as well as from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Uganda. Character.org’s mission is “to provide leadership, voice, and resources to help individuals and groups along their character journey.”The SASA! program falls under Character.org’s 10th principle, “Engages families and community members as partners.”

The Children’s Academy implemented the SASA! program in 2015 with training and support from our partner, Beyond Borders. SASA! addresses sexism, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and rape in Haitian society by helping both men and women rethink their relationship to power and personal agency. Over 700 parents, staff, and community members within the Children’s Academy network have been trained in SASA! We’ve witnessed profound change in relationships between men and women.
