On joy and learning

At Haiti Partners, it’s important to us to present not only Haiti’s harsh realities, but its beautiful sides as well. In videos like the one below, we celebrate the joy of happy students having fun with one of their favorite people, Children’s Academy Coordinator, Alex Myril.

But making our students feel safe and happy isn’t just about having fun. It’s essential to successful learning. Research shows that stress impedes memory and learning. In order for children to engage and develop to their potential, they need to feel safe and cared for. And, unfortunately, stress is the norm in all too many schools in Haiti where corporal punishment and humiliation are used regularly in the classroom.
