Daïka joined The Children’s Academy last year as a 7th grader. She was seeking a school with a more compassionate culture for students. Daïka is the second daughter in a family of four girls. Her mother is grateful to have all her daughters attending The Children’s Academy.
Since last year The Children’s Academy has been organizing an annual reading contest for students 7th grade and up. The contest aims to improve reading skills, encourage critical thinking, introduce students to the broader world, and to and reduce the time they might otherwise spend on social media.
Daïka participated in last year’s reading contest as a new student but did not make it to the final round. Undeterred, she continued to work on her reading and this year, as an 8th grader, emerged as a strong competitor.
Daïka faces challenges other students don’t. She suffers from a condition that occasionally causes her to lose consciousness and affects her response time in certain situations. As public speaking is a key part of the contest, this was a particular obstacle for her.
“This trophy belongs to the school and my family, who believed in me every step of the way. Thank you for your kindness and patience toward me.”
Nonetheless, during the contest, Daïka remained calm, focused, and precise in her tasks, earning high marks from the judges. According to her mother, Melinda, Daïka is a wise and empathetic young girl who demonstrates excellent patience in everything she does. Her teachers at The Children’s Academy also express this sentiment and speak highly of her.
Daïka’s acceptance speech was very moving, especially given her shyness. “This trophy belongs to the school and my family, who believed in me every step of the way. Thank you for your kindness and patience toward me.”
Daïka’s victory reflects her determination, and we believe it will pave the way for many more achievements in her life. Our mission at The Children’s Academy is to support each student who steps through our doors, welcoming them as they are and working together to uplift one another.
