IMN Community School celebrates Flag Day

May 18 was Flag Day in Haiti. It’s a national holiday and, despite the current troubles, many schools took the opportunity to put on public celebrations.

These images are from IMN Community School where they created and donned flag colored outfits and then marched out in the streets while singing, dancing, and performing music to showcase their national pride. It was a great celebration, and a welcome respite from the country’s many ongoing challenges.

IMN is unusual among Haitian schools in their commitment to student development through the arts. All IMN students learn an instrument as a part of their regular education, making it possible for them to perform for events like this.

We’re so grateful to be connected with such a strong group of Haitian educators and leaders who go the extra mile to encourage student pride in their nation and who recognize the developmental – and simply human – importance of the arts in education. Chapo ba zanmi nou nan IMN!

On behalf of the students, families, and communities we serve in Haiti, thank you for your ongoing support.
