What a great first year of the Micah Scholars Initiative! Our first class of 15 Haitian pastors and church leaders (5 women and 10 men) concluded their freshman year of study at Haitian seminaries. Outside the classroom, they’ve been active with our Disciples Program. This included distributing Bibles, training lay Bible study leaders, and using our newly-published book on Children’s Rights to help Haitian churches advocate for justice on behalf of vulnerable children in their communities.
This past weekend, we (Kent & Jonathan) were with them in Port-au-Prince for our 1st annual year-end retreat. We were joined by by seminary professors and students from the US and Canada, and professors from their own seminaries. Together, we had 2 incredible days of lectures, singing, and group discussion on the kingdom of God, the Gospel and justice, the role of lament in worship, and much more.
Recently, Jonathan asked one of the scholars, Fevry Israel, to share about this program’s impact on him. You can watch this 2-minute interview below. You can learn more about the other 14 Scholars, who will continue into their second year in September, here.
We’re now working to line up partners to fund the next class of 15, so they can start seminary in the fall. We’re excited about all that God has in store!
