LEARNING FOR LIFE

Rose-Bertha is a kindergartner. Only about half of children like her in Haiti get to attend school. Most Haitians live on less than $2 a day and can’t afford to send their children to school.

It’s a quality school

Our hope isn’t just that Rose-Bertha goes to school. She deserves a really good school, that respects her and her potential. This means we work to train her teachers and provide quality materials so her school will keep improving every year.

Her community is engaged

Her parents are involved in regular parent-teacher meetings. We’ve helped her community start a bakery that contributes proceeds to subsidize school costs. The school is at the center of community development projects.

For long-term change

These are the ways Rose-Bertha is cared for. It all makes a difference for her now and for the rest of her life. The school also is helping build long-term change for her community.

The challenge

Nearly 50% of school age children don’t go to school. 90% of schools must rely solely on enrollment fees to support their work. But families can’t afford to pay much and schools scrape by just to survive. Teachers regularly go unpaid, facilities are dreadfully inadequate, and students lack even basic educational materials.

Our response

We develop schools that help children realize their potential while driving community development and lifelong learning. We currently run one school of our own and we partner with six more, enabling students to attend school without exorbitant costs.
