Last Saturday Yunus Social Business – our close partners helping us establish social businesses at our partner schools – held a forum on social business at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince. In attendance were Muhammed Yunus – Nobel Peace Prize recipient and the founder of Grameen bank and the concept of micro-credit – and Haiti’s prime minister, Laurent Lamothe. Because of our close partnership with Yunus Social Business and our strong commitment to social business as a means to help Haiti’s schools attain financial independence, Haiti Partners’ Co-Director John Engle was invited to participate on a panel with these distinguished guests.
This year our partner schools will take their first major steps to launch their own social businesses. Haiti Partners is honored to be a part of this burgeoning movement in Haiti and looks forward to an exciting year ahead. Thank you to Yunus Social Business and the Vista Hermosa Foundation, without whom this would not have been possible!
