A grandfather finds hope for his granddaughter’s future

In Children's Academy, General, Quality Schools Program, Stories of Change

Arthur St. Louis (pictured here), the grandfather and guardian of two Children’s Academy students, delivers a regular dose of positivity to the school each day. He’s known for his hard work in the school gardens and providing far more service hours than are required for his two granddaughters’ enrollment. (In lieu of tuition at The Children’s Academy, parents provide four service hours each week.) Recently, Mr. St. Louis told us:

I never had the opportunity to go to school. I don’t know how to read or write. As fate would have it, I’m raising my grandchildren. As terrible as Haiti’s situation is, I find hope in my engagement at The Children’s Academy. I love being on the school grounds. My grandchildren would grow up illiterate like me were it not for The Children’s Academy.

As millions of Haitians suffer hunger, violence, and hopelessness, Mr. St. Louis is hopeful for the future and is investing his time and energy in his grandchildren.

Despite the extreme challenges Haiti currently faces, our focus on school-based community development continues to make a positive impact. Mr. St. Louis, other parents and grandparents and all of our colleagues and family in Haiti are living through an unspeakably difficult time with daily kidnappings, insecurity, and an economy that’s in shambles. Yet, they’re not giving up. Day in and day out, they’re striving to build up their community and creating the conditions for their children to learn, grow and work together toward a better future.

We’re honored to be a part of this work and the transformation happening in the lives of Mr. St. Louis, his granddaughter (pictured here), and so many others. We’re grateful to you and all those who make it possible with your financial gifts and generous support.

During this season of hope and compassion, we invite you lean in and invest in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves, like Mr. St. Louis and his granddaughters. Especially in such challenging times, your support can transform lives and provide hope for a brighter future.

Wishing you joy, peace, and meaning, now and always.

With love and gratitude,

Merline & John for Haiti Partners
