Volunteer Appreciation Week 2020: Celebrating Liesl Jones
“Children are a very important part of society and too often overlooked,” said Haiti Partners’ newest volunteer, Liesl Jones. “I enjoy helping children, no matter where life finds them, and this is what first drew me to Haiti Partners.”
Eager to help, Liesl has generously volunteered for two afternoons a week since beginning last November. “I really enjoy meeting new people and the variety of projects I can help with – it’s been something different and meaningful each week.”
Always a smile on her face and an eagerness to lend a hand, Liesl finds joy in whatever volunteer task needs to be done. She also volunteers with Literacy Services as an English tutor. “It is where I first met staff member, Laura Kelley, and learned about Haiti Partners. We were in a conversational Spanish class together and we all shared a bit about ourselves and our work. It seemed everyone in the class, like me, loves to travel and has a broader view of the world as a result,” said Liesl.
“Family and friends are important to my husband and I. Even though we are fairly new to the area and still both working, volunteering has really been a great way for me to get involved in the community. I feel like it is important to give back in any way we can.”
As the youngest of Haiti Partners’ cadre of volunteers, Liesl brings great creative energy and a respectful appreciation for the mission of Helping Haitians change Haiti through education. Together, she too believes we can create a better world and a brighter future. “It’s really important,” she cheerfully chimes in reminding us, “the children are our future.”
Thank you, Liesl, for being part of Haiti Partners and the future of Haiti’s children.
