Children’s Academy returning to normal as security holds

We are thrilled to share that there has been a quieting in gang activity in The Children’s Academy school community this fall and as a result the school is bustling with activity. Daily student attendance is over 380, classes are running normally, parent trainings in women’s and children’s rights have resumed, and the gardens and papermaking social business continue to function. Classroom art therapy project turns into Greeting Card venture

After reopening The Children’s Academy, we had to try to help students with the trauma they experienced from the recent gang violence in the community. Enlisting our art teachers, students were invited to draw then discuss their inspiration. One student’s art – 9th grader, Gardy – was so special we decide to feature it on this year’s greeting cards.

Partner Schools push forward with improvements despite late start to school year

While the academic year started late due to unrest, the Partner Schools made good use of the time through improvement projects like adding a water reservoir and classroom space (IMN), building new furniture and beautifying the campus (CSCS), and repairing campus walls for better security (Henri Christophe Community School).
